Recently I have been exploring Cascading Style Sheets. The level of control they give over HTML is astounding and the extra effort is well worth it. Long term time saving is amazing and as a design tool you can build up the page slowly around your content.
The CSS tutorials from the resource packed w3schools.com website is what you would expect from a Google PR 8 site. High quality, clear and concise, and 100% accurate for standards compliance. The adverts are a bit annoying but the content is so good you can (almost) ignore the adverts entirely.
Another CSS resource I found useful was from html.net. It is as good as the first and without so many adverts. Their CSS tutorials are very similar but with different approaches. A good cross reference.
Another useful cross reference is from tizag.com and their CSS tutorials. A good reference for clarifying usage.
Be warned! CSS is simple to start using, but can be mind bendingly difficult to debug. I only play with CSS but a professional programmer can do amazing things with it. If you are still using tables and/or frames then it is time to free your site design from your content. Your content is then free to be delivered in multiple formats. That is the whole point of CSS! Your content on the web, on a mobile, on the tv? The first step is divorcing content from design and CSS is the solution.
