your help has been amazing.  What would it cost to get a professional looking website up? I need to finish and make the minor changes to mine!!

Answer from Paul Drewett

In terms of keywords I will let you decide. Take a look at Google. Any meta tags? (no)What about Yahoo?(no) YouTube has one or two, www.jackets.com has none.

<meta name="keywords" content="NASCAR Jackets, JH Design Jacket, JH Design Jackets">
<meta name="description" content="NASCAR Jackets, JH Design Jacket, JH Design Jackets">
<meta name="distribution" content="global">
<meta NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="7 days">
<meta NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="ALL,INDEX">

You can get rid of all of these.

Leave a title tag in and a met-equiv statement of course.

You should dynamically generate the page titles from the actual page name, ie the name of the page in the h1 tag. Then you get 100% match between your title tag and the page content.

To get a professional looking website up can be as little as £500 up to about £2000. Beyond that and you are talking about really really big sites with specialist functionality. However these prices do not convert well to $ as the £:$ rates are not great for you buying services here. Also you should work with someone local, that you can meet and talk to. Building a web site is not a one off hit. You start small, and grow. Buying your way in big is always a mistake. Have you made any money yet online? If you have, spend the profits on a new site. If not, keep working with what you have.

If you were in the UK I would install a default installation of osCommerce (free open-source online shop) for you but my servers in the UK couldn't service a market in the USA. When you have time, download and install the package from www.oscommerce.org and try it out. It is really a fantastic entry into the market and virtually without risk. You can also buy very impressive templates later if you want to jazz it up a bit. Their support forums are awful, but I bet that near you somewhere is someone that could install and maintain an osCommerce site for you for very little. I imagine £5 a month hosting, £50 installation fee, but perhaps as much as £200 to install a template. Take a look online, but try it yourself first on your current hosting space. Just install it in a sub folder somewhere. You can even try an online demo somewhere on the net, I will dig it out for you if you want.

Making pocket money online is difficult, making a living is really hard work, but very occasionally, when you find a good market and provide a good service, making really good profits can be quite easy. Keep going.

Do you have a jacket shop on Ebay? If not, you could set up an instant shop online, with an instant audience of millions. I know quite a few people that make a good 2nd income from ebay.
