What is the Google Dance

The Google dance is a term used to describe the period while Google is being updated.

Google has hundreds of server banks, uniting millions of servers, any one of which can answer a search query. These banks are identical and return the same search results for any given search - usually at least.

When google is updating it's systems they do so one server bank at a time. If you query each server bank individually and compare the results it is possible to see when the search results become unsychronised. This is called the google dance.

The google dance is very important for search engine optimisation as it gives us clues about how Google is altering it's algorithyms. It takes quite an expert eye to interpret the movements but the Google dance can be quite fascinating as it happens.
