Five fundamental questions to judge your own web site.

Each of these 5 questions needs an honest answer. It is easy to be glib about these things. Don't be. Your web success requires thought and clarity.

1. What is the actual purpose of your website?

2. What is the focus of your website?

3. How functional Is Your Website?

4. Where have you compromised on your website?

5. How does your web site reflect your business?

You should answer these questions in two main ways.

First Offline 

Firstly write down what you think your answers are for your web site. Without looking at it or reference to it, write down your answers, preferably while you are offline.

Then take a long hard look at your competitor web sites. Take your time, browse around, use their tools and facilities and have a play.

Then online 

With your competitor sites fresh in your own mind, it is time to visit your own web site again. Now you can compare your offline answers with the real answers about your own web site. Where your aspirations or expectations are not met, where your offline answers differ from the reality, or where your answers reveal weaknesses, should be the aspects of your web site that you work on first.

Take my advice and take the time.

If you follow my advice, are brutally honest and take your time considering your answers, you will benefit greatly.

Answering these five questions answered offline, then online after visiting your competitors, will provide you great insights into how your web site should be judged and more importantly, how it can be improved.
