More than being a nerd

Running a succesful website is not about being that stereo typical nerd. Like all good stereo types I have only rarely met a true 'nerd' and he became a good friend. What that says about me I am not sure but a succesful website owner needs to be alot more than a techy geek!

A successful website owner needs skills and capabilities that include;

• An open mind and readiness to learn
• Adaptability to change
• Good time management and ability to cope with stress
• Genuine empathy with coleagues and customers
• Ability to work on our own and in teams that are rapidly created and dissolved
• A harmony with the ethical perspectives and the social responsibilities of our businesses
• An knowledge of and ability to pick out good sources of information
• A commitment that we all learn from whomesoever at whatsoever time
• Consistent judgement that is not afraid to take u-turns as things change
• A perspective on the broader picture and the ability to think strategically

Nerds need not apply!

The internet was dominated by the power of technology to change the way we do things. With the arrival of broadband, it will now be dominated by how we, website owners, can adapt to the change and make it succeed. Nerds need not apply.
