Directories

Submiting to directories should be an ongoing task. Search engines use the major directories for both local searches and for their main listings.

A link in one of the major directories can take monthes to achieve, but when you get it, Google will be impressed and promote your site more effectivley.

Submit to five groups of directories:

Dmoz.org and Yahoo (local, such as Yahoo.co.uk, or Yahoo.ca, etc... if you can).

Find directories in your field and get into them. Pay if you must, but only if the price is reasonable.

Local directories that relate to your country or region.

Any other directories that would be appropriate.

If you are targeting the local market, make sure that you are in the Yellow Pages and other major directories (because search engines use these listings to power local searches)
