The no.1 Search Engine

Google
Add your website to Google. Just tell them your full URL (ie http://www.independentwebadvice.co.uk). You can also add comments or keywords that describe the content of your page. These are used only for Google information and do not affect how your page is indexed or used by Google.

No.2 A close second

Yahoo! Search
Don't forget to submit to Yahoo! Search. Enter the URL for your website or webpage you would like to submit. Again you only need to submit the home page, they will spider the rest of your web site.

No.3 A close third

MSN
The rapidly improving MSN submission page. Just type the URL of your homepage. Their crawler does the rest. The MSNBot follows links from your homepage to find other pages on your site.

From PR6 and downwards. They may have good rankings but when you start to look, you realise how good the top 3 actually are. Leagues ahead, the top 3 web search engines far exceed any of these, but if you have the time, submit your site manually to each for best results. Try to use a temporary email address so that you can respond initially, then dump the email address so that you don't suffer the inevitable spammy adverts!

4. Open Directory
   Submit your site to the Open Directory This site takes ages and ages to list a site, don't expect quick results. Not really a search engine, more an Open Directory. The Open Directory Project is a web directory of Internet resources. The directory is hierarchically arranged by subject - from broad to specific. The ODP is maintained by community editors who evaluate sites for inclusion in the directory. All submissions are subject to editor evaluation.
    
5. ExactSeek
   Submit to ExactSeek You will need to be a member to join. Your site will not be added if it lacks proper Title and Meta Description tags or if you fail to respond to the verification email sent following your Membership Signup.
    
6. ScrubTheWeb
   You may submit only one URL per email address per day. An email confirmation is required.Submit to ScrubTheWeb. Lots of sales gimmicks and expect lots of spammy mails! Only a PR6 site.
